The silk velvet bedspreads by Exquisite Handmade are premium handcrafted pieces. We therefore recommend gentle care and avoiding full washing unless absolutely necessary.
1. DURING USE
• Use the bedspread in a clean, dry, and well-ventilated environment.
• Avoid direct contact with cosmetics, perfume, skincare oils, detergents, or alkaline substances.
• Avoid pulling, tugging, or applying excessive force to the surface, especially around the quilted seams and edges.
• Do not place heavy objects on the bedspread for extended periods, as this may affect the quilted structure.
• When used frequently, consider placing a sheet or lightweight cover between the bedspread and the body to reduce direct contact and help keep the bedspread clean for longer.
A simple principle:
Treat your silk velvet bedspread as a precious handcrafted piece – gently, carefully, and with as little unnecessary handling as possible.
2. DAILY CARE
The bedspread should not be washed too frequently.
After use, you may:
• Gently remove dust from the surface.
• Allow the bedspread to air in the room for a while before folding and storing it.
• If possible, lay the bedspread in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area for a short period, away from direct sunlight.
Do not beat, squeeze, or rub the velvet surface aggressively.
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may alter the color of the silk and affect the durability of the silk fibers.
3. WHEN THE BEDSPREAD HAS A SMALL STAIN
This is the method recommended by Exquisite Handmade before considering washing the entire bedspread.
Do not rub the stain.
Use a clean, soft, dry cloth to gently blot the affected area.
If water is necessary, use only a very small amount of clean water and gently blot from the outside of the stain toward the center.
Never wring, scrub, or soak the entire bedspread.
Rubbing silk while it is damp may damage the fibers and create changes in the surface texture or color.
For difficult stains, we recommend not using household stain removers or cleaning chemicals yourself, but instead taking the product to a professional care service experienced in handling silk.
4. WASHING THE BEDSPREAD – THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT
Professional Dry Cleaning Recommended
For a premium silk velvet bedspread, especially one featuring quilted construction, embroidery, or handcrafted finishing, Exquisite Handmade recommends professional dry cleaning whenever full cleaning is necessary.
When sending the bedspread for cleaning, clearly inform the cleaning service that the product is:

A professional cleaner should check colorfastness and select an appropriate cleaning process before treatment. Silk may shrink, fade, bleed, or undergo changes in surface texture if it is not handled correctly.
Machine Washing at Home Is Not Recommended
Do not use a standard washing machine.
Do not use strong washing cycles, high-speed spinning, or machine drying.
For a multi-layer quilted bedspread, exposure to water, friction, and the mechanical movement of a washing machine may affect not only the silk fibers but also the shape and quilted structure of the product.
5. THINGS TO AVOID
Do not use:
• Hot water
• Bleach
• Strong cleaning agents
• Regular laundry detergent
• Strong alkaline substances
• Regular fabric softener
• Stain removers that are not specifically formulated for silk
Do not:
• Soak the bedspread in water for a prolonged period
• Wring or twist the bedspread
• Rub the velvet surface aggressively
• Use a washing machine spin cycle
• Tumble dry with heat
• Dry under direct sunlight
• Iron directly on the velvet surface
Professional silk-care guidelines also emphasize avoiding bleach, high heat, excessive friction, and tumble drying.
6. HOW TO DRY
If the bedspread becomes slightly damp, allow it to air-dry naturally in a well-ventilated space, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Do not use a heated dryer.
Do not dry the bedspread under strong sunlight.
For a large bedspread, lay it on a clean and suitable surface to prevent stretching or uneven pressure on the quilted structure.
7. FOLDING & LONG-TERM STORAGE
Before storing the bedspread, make sure the product is completely dry.
Fold it gently, avoiding excessively sharp creases or compressing it tightly for long periods.
We recommend storing the bedspread in a fabric bag or breathable storage bag, in a place that is:
Dry – Clean – Well Ventilated – Away from Direct Light.
Avoid storing the bedspread in an airtight plastic bag for long periods, as trapped moisture may create conditions that encourage mildew.
Periodically take the bedspread out, inspect it, and allow it to air.
8. IF IRONING OR SMOOTHING IS NECESSARY
For velvet surfaces, never place an iron directly onto the velvet pile.
If smoothing is necessary, work from the reverse side using low heat and an appropriate protective cloth.
For premium quilted silk velvet products, we recommend having a professional care service handle the product if the surface becomes heavily wrinkled or requires reshaping.
